Amazing and Mysterious Homeopathy

AmyLansky.com Posted on November 16, 2016 by AmyLanskyNovember 16, 2016

amyfoot1I hope you will excuse this image if you find it a bit weird or gross.  It’s a picture of the bottom of my foot, and it stands as proof of the story I’m going to tell you about an experience I’ve just had — a story that underscores the freaky and wondrous power of homeopathy.  Even though I wrote Impossible Cure and have written about homeopathy for so many years, experiences like this one still leave my mouth hanging open!

I recently took a 200c dose of Silica for a variety of issues — it was suggested by my homeopath as a constitutional remedy. The remedy has had various curative effects on me, but the most unexpected and strange effect has been the “healing” of something I experienced when I was about 9 years old. In fact, I had completely forgotten about it.

As you might know, one of the hallmarks of a curative response to a remedy is the return of old symptoms. In essence, the body unwinds and re-experiences previous ailments and symptoms that had been suppressed or had not completely healed, and thus had left an energetic imprint on the body, even if we are not aware of them at a conscious or physical level.  In addition, Silica (made from the mineral silicon), in particular, is known as a remedy that has the power to expel foreign material from the body such as splinters. For this reason, those who have implants in their body are warned to be cautious with Silica. Interestingly, Silica is known for “expelling” the toxic effects of vaccines as well.

A couple of weeks after taking the dose of Silica, I started noticing a small bump on the bottom of my foot. It felt hard, and I began to wonder if the remedy was removing something that had been embedded there.  Soon however, it stopped being hard but instead, formed a round area, about 3/4 inch in diameter, that had a slight burning sensation, especially at night. It wasn’t really troublesome, but it sure was mysterious!  Knowing homeopathy the way that I do, I was unconcerned but curious to see what would happen next.

After about a week of experiencing the burning spot, I remembered a long-forgotten event from my childhood.  When I was about nine years old, I developed a Plantars wart in that exact location. My mom took me to a dermatologist, an old man (at least it seemed to me!) who, instead of “burning” it off,  applied a patch to the spot that slowly ate away at the bottom of my foot.  After several weeks and more patches, the Plantars wart was eaten away, leaving a big hole in the bottom of my foot that slowly healed.

It’s amazing, but a single dose of Silica (silicon diluted 1:100, 200 times!), taken at age 60, brought back this over 50-year-old experience to my foot.  Of course, it didn’t bring back the Plantars wart itself, but my foot seemed to be reliving a kind of energetic memory of the event, in a more benign form. It was even re-experiencing the burning sensation caused by those patches!  At this point, my foot no longer burns, but old layers of skin are peeling off from the spot and it is slowly healing.  I took this picture last week.  Now, the spot is even smaller and my foot continues to return back to normal — now, presumably, truly healed from a trauma that occurred over 50 years ago!

This experience underscores so many truths about the body:

  • Ailments that we think have been “healed” and forgotten can still be remembered by the body in energetic form.
  • Homeopathy is able to trigger healing of these old energetic wounds.
  • The body utilizes the homeopathic remedy according to its own mysterious logic. Rather than “doing” something to the physical body, it supplies the vital force with energy that enables it to heal itself, according to its own wisdom.

Amazing!  That’s why I always say:  There’s Hope With Homeopathy!

A Little Can Go a Long Way: How A Small Act of Reunion Can Break the Spell of Separation

AmyLansky.com Posted on August 11, 2016 by AmyLanskyAugust 11, 2016

IMG_4474Lately, I’ve been immersed in the writing of Charles Eisenstein, a contemporary writer/thinker who is a leader in the effort to shift humanity into a new way of being — a fundamental change in consciousness so that we finally acknowledge our inherent unity with nature and each other. Charles is probably most well known for his writings about the “sharing economy,” but his interests extend far beyond the economic.  Recently, his books and articles have touched upon ideas closer to my own — about synchronicity and the inherent interconnectedness of meaning at all levels of reality.  You might be interested in listening to Charles’s interview of me from 2015, which touched upon these subjects, including its connection to homeopathy.  (Many apologies for the poor sound quality of much of this interview, but I believe it is still worthwhile listening.)

One of the things Charles points out in his recent book, “The More Beautiful World Our Hearts Know Is Possible,” is that force, control, and effort are unlikely to be able to shift humanity, at least not before the calamitous results of our current way of life become irreversible. Instead, it is likely to be small acts, small changes, that shift the tide and at least make the future more bearable. Much as in homeopathic treatment, it is small doses, even infinitesimal doses (if applied at just the right time and place) that can create the biggest shifts.  It is essentially the proverbial “butterfly effect,” in which the beating of a butterfly’s wings, if it occurs in precisely the right time and at precisely the right place, that precipitates a hurricane.

And consider this: How much more likely are such phenomena if we include in our conception of reality not only our perceived outer world, but also all the meaningful interconnections that exist at all levels of reality? As I discuss in my book Active Consciousness, if synchronicities are always at play, if the world is, at a deeper level, always operating via processes based more on meaning than on physical cause and effect, then small acts can have amazing effects — indeed, much larger  effects than force could ever achieve.

Of course, stories always make the point. That’s why we all love to watch YouTubes of people touched and even transformed by small acts of kindness. Here is a recent story from my own life.

I live in what has become a very wealthy neighborhood in the San Francisco Bay Area. When my husband and I moved there over 30 years ago, it was considered quite rural. We are on a septic system and, at the time, were fed by a water line managed by the neighborhood.  When that line failed, everyone pitched in to repair it. With a dozen houses on our private road, we all knew each other, but also valued our quiet and privacy. Geese walked down the street. A previous owner of my own house was the local butcher and at one time had 60 sheep grazing on our two acres.  According to neighbors, live chickens walked around the kitchen.

Times have changed and my neighborhood has become increasingly upscale. Our water line has now been incorporated into the main system, and there is also a sewer if you want to pay the big bucks to get incorporated into it (we are still on our septic). And while our road is still private, the county is increasingly making unreasonable demands for its widening and ultimate incorporation as well. Recently, a billionaire bought a large and beautiful field that had once been the habitat of herons and foxes and coyotes and deer.  He is building a mega mansion and riding facility.  At one point he even threatened to sue all of us over road maintenance issues. There goes the neighborhood.

Even before the billionaire arrived, however, the neighborhood was losing cohesion. Two summers ago I got the inspiration to create a “sharing library” box.  I envisioned it as something that would create an air of love and unity on the road.  I also started fantasizing that one of our barn outbuildings could become a kind of neighborhood hangout for drinks and conversation.

A few years before this vision, my neighbor Babette Wills died.  She and her husband Michael built the first house on our road.  In fact, they created the road itself with a plow in 1948 and built their house by hand. It was a bit on the rickety side, but it was an artistic masterpiece, with plaster walls emblazoned with works of art carved by their bohemian friends. The house was a center of counter-culture activity in the 60s, and even had an exterior wall carved with a peace symbol and the castigating words “Shame On Us” for the war in Vietnam.

And so, during my moment of inspiration, I also decided to name our road and neighborhood “Willstown” in their honor.  My library box would be the “Willstown” library.  Eventually, my husband built it, I painted it, and my husband and son installed it a few months ago. We threw a few books in and waited to see what would happen.

Perhaps it wasn’t a hurricane, but the reaction to the Willstown sharing library has exceeded my expectations.  I received a glowing email from almost everyone in the neighborhood.  The library is now filled with books and DVDs. People love it. Suddenly neighbors are talking to me more often. There is a more peaceful air on the road. My little act of love and unity seems to have shifted the mood. Maybe I should create that neighborhood “hangout” too… I’m considering it.

When I think about it, the beauty of a library box is simple yet profound. It is a small thing, but it is a symbol of the fact that we don’t need to hoard possessions as our own, but rather share them freely. It tells us that by sharing, by acknowledging our inherent interconnectedness, we are all richer. On our road, where each house is increasingly becoming larger, more luxurious, more full of personal “things,” and more separate and insulated from its neighbor, one little act of sharing packed a powerful punch that broke the spell, if only for a short time. What if my neighbor decided to freely share her pool with the rest of the road? I would probably get to know her better in a day than I have in the past 30 years. What if I told the whole road that they could use our exercise bike in the barn?

Our road includes so many talented people — a doctor, a lawyer, writers, a homeopath (me!), computer scientists, an engineer, a restauranteur, business people, a landscaper, a building contractor. We have a village on a little road. What if we more deeply acknowledged our connection to one another, rather than protecting and deepening our separation?

What small act of connection could you perform that would break the spell?

The Whole World Is a Very Narrow Bridge

AmyLansky.com Posted on June 28, 2016 by AmyLanskyJune 28, 2016

narrowbridgeIn my last newsletter, I spoke about the pervasiveness of fear and greed as forces that foment destruction in our world. I also asked whether some kind of awareness can deliver us from this fate. When I think about my current state of mind and that of most people I know, words come to mind like: waiting, trepidation, hopefulness, fatalism, and uncertainty. It is somewhat like the feeling one might have when he or she is about to cross an extremely narrow and treacherous footbridge across a deep chasm — a bridge that, in addition, leads to unknown territory. Will we make it to the other side? What will we find when we get there?

It’s not just the American election, climate change, the autism explosion, corporate exploitation, or the degradation and greed-fueled pollution of our air and water and soil and food and bodies that create this state of mind. There’s also a sense that big changes are coming. What can we do to ease our way? Can we make the bridge we are about to cross any safer or shorter? Can we ensure that the other side, once we reach it, is better, or at least not worse, than what we are leaving behind?

A very famous and wise kabbalist, Rabbi Nachman of Bretslav (1772-1811), is perhaps most well known for the following saying: “The whole world is a very narrow bridge, and the essential thing is to not be afraid at all.” At times like these, to paraphrase another wise man — Franklin Roosevelt, it seems that the only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

So how not to be afraid? How not to be run by fear? This can be very difficult. Because fear is not only naturally emerging from within us, but it is also thrust upon us at every turn: by the media, politicians, medical professionals, environmentalists, corporations, clergy, and more. And why should it not be? Fear is the most potent tool for control and convincement of others. In fact, didn’t my previous article about the exponential growth of autism make you afraid? I know it scares me.

Yes, fear and greed are potent motivators. But they may not be optimal at getting us across the bridge. As far as I can figure out (and I’ve been thinking about this constantly lately), our only way forward is twofold:

1) Try to hone your awareness of what’s really going on. Use your inner intuition to decide what’s really true for you — don’t just accept “common wisdom” and oft-repeated media blather as truth. However, do not overlay your truth with fear; just accept it as it is.

2) Seek out positive options — ideally, ones that will also benefit others — when moving forward. Use your gathered information to make choices, one step at a time. Live in trust that you are doing the best you can possibly do, given your efforts at honing your awareness and gathering positive options.

In many ways, these two strategies echo the four steps of manifestation I outline in my book Active Consciousness. Namely, get quiet, and get in touch with your own higher wisdom and intention without interference from the fear-mongering of others or your own fear-based internal stories. Then let go in trust and Choose Joy.

This may all sound formulaic and trite, but trust me, it’s not so easy. It’s much easier to blindly accept what the media or government or authorities are telling you, become motivated by fear, force your fear-based decisions on others, and greedily try to escape your anxieties by consuming and hording more food, possessions, or entertainment, all in the name of some kind of fear-motivated “control”.

Of course, each one of us has our own truth, our own reality, our own quest. Yours might be drastically at odds with mine — even antithetical to mine. But I have a hunch that if we all left the motivations of fear and greed behind, our quests would at least be less likely to stomp upon and hurt one another. Indeed, what else can we do but follow our inner truth and do our very best? As Buckminster Fuller used to say, in the end, Universe will decide which dreams bear fruit, and they sometimes do so in the most surprising — often synchronistic — ways.

Friends, our collective past has led us to this edge. Our only choice is to move forward and try to get across the bridge into our collective future. Fear and greed are only going to make it more difficult and definitely less pleasant. See you on the other side!

Despite Everything, Homeopathy Continues Its March to Triumph!

AmyLansky.com Posted on June 28, 2016 by AmyLanskyJune 28, 2016

newsAs has been true since the time of Hahnemann in the early 1800s, the skeptics, naysayers, and insecure purveyors of “orthodox” medicine and its drugs continue to do everything they can to keep homeopathy down. But the truth of homeopathic cures and the patients who continue to flock to homeopathy keep the flame alive!

Here are some recent victories that have made me smile.

1. Switzerland officially acknowledges homeopathy as a valid and important part of its health care system.

Perhaps you remember that, a few years ago, I reported on a Swiss study that found homeopathic treatment to be safe, effective, and cost-effective too! Perhaps the famed Swiss stance of neutrality has broadened its application beyond politics into the medical sphere. On March 29, the interior ministry of Switzerland announced plans to give five complementary therapies, including homeopathy, the same status as conventional medicine when it comes to health insurance. An important reason for this decision was that two-thirds of Swiss backed the inclusion of these therapies on the constitutional list of paid health services. The people have spoken! They know what works!

2. India continues to be a model country that gives homeopathy its due.

In celebration of World Homeopathy Awareness Week (coinciding with Hahnemann’s birthday on April 10), the Indian government hosted an international convention that celebrated the successes of homeopaths and Homeopathy on April 9 and 10. You can watch the ceremonies online.

As an American who regularly witnesses the scorn (or more commonly, the complete obliviousness) given to homeopathy in the USA, it filled my heart with amazement and gratitude to watch Indian government officials acknowledge and laud the esteemed homeopaths and homeopathic institutions of its country. The government of India has fully integrated homeopathic medicine into its public health care system, and is providing a model for this integration for nations around the world. It is high time for the USA and other countries to rise to the maturity and wisdom of India. May events like the one held in India be the future of homeopathy worldwide!

3. Americans who DO use homeopathy are quite happy with it!

Despite the marginalized status of homeopathy in the US, an important survey on the use of homeopathy and homeopathic medicines in the USA was recently published in the highly respected American Journal of Public Health. The researchers used the 2012 National Health Interview Survey to compare homeopathy users with supplement users and those using other forms of complementary and integrative medicine. Of particular note was that homeopathy users who saw a professional homeopath were significantly more likely to feel that homeopathy was “very important in maintaining health and well-being” and that it helped their health condition “a great deal”.

4. A law is being proposed in New Hampshire to support homeopathic treatment for addiction.

Maybe the efficacy of homeopathic treatment and patient satisfaction with homeopathy will slowly make a dent in the USA. Homeopaths in New Hampshire recently testified in support of an amendment to the New Hampshire Opioid Treatment bill that would allow for addiction treatment programs to utilize CHC-certified homeopaths in their program of services for clients and to assist the public in knowing about homeopathy as an adjunct treatment.

5. When it comes to cancer treatment, some homeopathic wisdom may be getting through in the US, because homeopathic protocols from India for cancer treatment were reviewed by American researchers from the US department of health and human services, Office of Global Affairs, National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other US academic institutions as part of the US-India Workshop on Traditional Medicine (March 3-4) in New Delhi. Readers of this newsletter may also recall that Indian protocols for homeopathic cancer treatment were also found to be successful in lab studies at the prestigious Anderson Cancer Center at the University of Texas.

Can Awareness Trump Fear and Greed?
Part 1: The Autism Epidemic

AmyLansky.com Posted on April 8, 2016 by AmyLanskyApril 8, 2016

awareness-980x350April is Autism Awareness month, so what better time than now to talk about the subject of awareness in general and the ever increasing incidence of autism in particular?

I’ve been planning to write this article for several years. Ten years ago, I began collecting data about the incidence of autism and projecting its growth, which I estimated to be approximately 10% a year. I’m sad to report that the CDC statistics have borne this rate out, though it may actually be even worse. I distinctly remember when the rate of autism was 1 in 150 children, and it wasn’t that long ago — at about the time my book Impossible Cure came out in 2003. Now the media commonly cites a 1 in 68 statistic, though a more recent, less publicized 2015 CDC report cites a new rate of 1 in 45 children. We have broken the threshold of 2% of children with autism.

CDC Autism Rate

Where is this all taking us? At what point will the media stop saying that the increase in autism is nothing to be alarmed about — that it is illusory and simply due to an increased awareness of the condition and improved diagnosis? At what point will the media stop implying that autism is a genetic disease that has nothing to do with environmental causes? (Although genetics may make some people more susceptible to these causes, as environmental factors increase in intensity, more and more people are clearly falling prey to them.) Consider this. What will our society be like when 1 in 10 children (10%) are autistic? 1 in 5 children? Half of all children? Don’t forget: autistic children grow up and become autistic adults who will be dependent on society for help. We are only now beginning to experience the consequences of an increased adult autistic population, as the “statistics” of the 1990s enter their 20s.

These are all interesting questions, and my guess is, we will all be finding out the answers in our lifetimes.

But this article isn’t just about autism. The issues, questions, and potential solutions to the autism epidemic also pertain to other alarming trends humanity is facing. Climate change is the most obvious example. The growing corruption of our food supply and other types of environmental damage wreaked by GMOs, pesticides, and monoculture practices is another. We humans are certainly a highly adaptable species that is able to survive in the face of environmental challenges that are obvious to us. But we seem to be quite bad at noticing and responding to environmental problems that develop more slowly or that don’t affect us directly. Like the proverbial frog not noticing that the pot is coming to a slow boil — or even if it does notice, it is too fearful, numbed out, or self-absorbed to do anything about it — we humans tend to ignore evidence until it’s too late to escape severe consequences.

This article is the first in a series of two or three articles that will talk about this human trait and the kinds of things that might influence the rate at which we take appropriate action. One question I’d like to explore is whether cultivating a particular form of awareness could be a remedy. Another important factor may be whether we can find attractive alternatives that provide a solution.

Whatever the problem may be, however, perhaps our biggest obstacles to taking early action are the all-too-human forces of fear and greed. Indeed, one thing we can be sure of: we would take appropriate action if it could also be motivated by fear and greed! Unfortunately, fear and greed often lead to inappropriate action instead. Wouldn’t it be better if an enhanced form of awareness and access to alternatives could be used to motivate us?

So let’s begin by taking a deeper look at the autism epidemic.

When will action happen?

Right now, the only people shouting and screaming about autism are the families that have autistic children. I believe that the latest point at which meaningful action will begin to take place in the USA is when more than 50% of families are in this boat. Assuming that a family will become active when a grandparent has an autistic grandchild, and assuming a birth rate of 2 children per couple, this point will be reached when the autism rate is 12.5% (1 in 8 children). Now comes the even scarier graph.

CDC Autism Future

Over the past 10 years or so, the rate of increase in autism has been fairly linear. The yellow line projects this rate of increase, which would put us at an autism rate of 10% (1 in 10 children) in about 40 years and 12.5% (1 in 8 children) in about 55 years.

A more alarming trend line is the green curve, which more accurately fits all the existing CDC data. This would put us at a rate of 10% (1 in 10 children) in 2030 (less than 15 years from now), and 12.5% (1 in 8 children) just 2 or 3 years after that. If the exponential curve is correct, then the next 20 years will see the autism issue slowly becoming personal to most Americans.

Which trajectory are we actually on? The yellow line or green curve? That will become more obvious 5 years from now, when the two rates diverge. By 2020, the rate will either clearly begin to match the yellow line or the green curve, and by 2025, it will be even more obvious.

What are the causes of the autism epidemic?

So how can we begin taking action earlier than 20-50 years from now? I think that depends on a variety of factors, all of which pertain to the underlying causes of autism. Looking back at the first graph, we can see that the rate of autism really started going up in the late 1980s and 1990s. Our answer to the autism puzzle will come from looking at environmental factors that began to accelerate at that time (clearly, it’s not changes to our genetics!).

Personally, I believe that autism is the end result of several factors that, together, create a perfect storm that weakens and twists the immune systems of our children, creating a tidal wave of autoimmunity and systemic poisoning (especially of the brain and gut). The more and more these environmental factors increase, the greater the number of children who cannot defend themselves and thus fall prey to autism and a host of other disabilities and weaknesses that are increasing at an alarming rate. Three of the most obvious factors that meet our criteria are the following:

1) The ever increasing vaccine schedule, which overstimulates the immune system and causes toxic metals such as mercury and aluminum to be injected directly into the blood stream. Consider this. During my own childhood in the late 1950s, children were given 7 doses of vaccine antigens. In 1983, the total number of doses given to children (ages 1–18) was 11. Today children are subjected to 69 doses of vaccine antigens.

Interestingly, this alarming increase in the vaccine schedule began in 1986 (also the time at which the autism rate really began taking off!), when the vaccine manufacturers and doctors were indemnified from any legal consequences due to vaccine injuries.

Since that time, the drug companies have been developing more and more vaccines to sell us. There are hundreds more in the development pipeline, with the media and government well-funded by the pharmaceutical industry to promote them, usually by instilling panic about disease and urging public mockery of those who don’t comply. They have created the perfect storm of fear and greed!

2) The worsening of our food supply, and in particular, the growing prevalence of GMO and other foods bathed in glyphosate — Monsanto’s “Roundup.” Please note: the genetic modification of foods like corn, which are increasingly a part of every bite we take, was done primarily to boost sales of glyphosate. Greed at work!

3) The increasing amount of electromagnetic radiation (EMFs) all around us, due to cell phones, WIFI, cordless phones, smart meters, and other “smart” home devices, some of which are now wearable on our bodies. There is even talk of having such devices implanted inside our bodies.

Whether or not these three particular things are key factors in creating the autism epidemic could easily be discovered if we examined the rate of autism in populations that do not partake in vaccines, eat only organic foods, and are not highly exposed to EMFs. There are even such populations here in the USA. For example, many have cited the low incidence of autism among the Amish. Unfortunately, no formal study has ever been done to make this kind of comparison — and probably for good reason. The financial powers behind all of these environmental factors — vaccines, “conventional” food, and high tech — do not want us to think too deeply about these things. But the time is coming. When your child or grandchild has autism, you will want to know!

So what can be done?

I think it is highly unlikely that we’re going to see a slowdown in EMF-generating technology, though it could possibly be made safer through technological fixes or more circumspection about keeping such devices near or inside our bodies. There is a growing awareness of the dangers of cellphones and WIFI in European countries (who are often way ahead of us in the awareness game). They are even beginning to take action, at least with respect to children’s exposure.

Awareness is also growing of the dangers of glyphosate and GMOs. Once again, Europe is ahead of us. And with food, at least, we do have an attractive alternative — organic food and a return to regenerative farming practices. The big food companies are fighting GMO labeling with all their might, but they only have greed on their side, not fear — so labeling in the USA is probably just around the corner. (Note: Canada and the US are two of the few countries that don’t already do so.) Once parents can better control their children’s food intake, it will be interesting to see if it has any slowing effect on the autism rate. And it will certainly be interesting to see if the improved food supply and reduction in child exposure to EMFs in Europe results in a lowering of the autism rate there.

The hardest nut to crack, and in my view the biggest factor, is vaccines. The media and politicians are bought and sold on this one (unfortunately, even the most liberal ones), so awareness has only been able to creep in through the back door of the internet and the activism of autism families. But there must be desperation afoot in the pharmaceutical industry, because they are vigorously creating and pushing forced vaccination mandates all over the country. (Just look at the legislators who are proposing these mandates; they will invariably be the ones who are most highly funded and advised by Big Pharma.) The vaccine manufacturers may simply see the writing on the wall, and so are trying to make as much money on the vaccine cash cow while they can. Unfortunately, they may be hastening their own demise by accelerating the increase in autism, as more and more vaccines are added to the mandated schedule. This too will be interesting to see.

So let me conclude here. I hope that I have at least given you food for thought. In my next installment, I will consider more deeply why it is so hard to wake people up into awareness and especially into action about the autism epidemic and other alarming trends.

Homeopathy: The Medicine of Synchronicity?

AmyLansky.com Posted on February 24, 2016 by AmyLanskyFebruary 24, 2016

blue-mandala-spiral-synchronicityMost of us are familiar with the concept of synchronicity — the occurrence of uncanny “coincidences” that carry meaning. For example, one of the most common illustrations of a synchronicity is when someone’s beloved watch or clock stops the moment they die. Or consider what happened to my husband a few years ago. He left work very upset about his job, only to discover that as he drove home, his car stereo died. To make matters worse, when he turned on his home computer, the disk crashed irreparably and the keyboard died too! Despite being an expert computer scientist, he could not get any of these devices to work for nearly a week. I kept telling him that nothing would change until he faced his feelings about work.

Finally, while staying up all night trying to rebuild his computer operating system, my husband made a major decision about changing things at work. Suddenly everything began to function. In fact, when he got into his car the next day, the stereo system was mysteriously working perfectly as well. Only the keyboard remained dead. Was it my husband’s energy field that created these mishaps? Perhaps. Or was it synchronicity? Actually, both of these explanations could be true and are likely related to one another.

If you pay more attention and start looking for synchronicities in your life, you may notice that the most startling occurrences tend to happen at key junctures — when you meet your beloved, get the perfect job, or make a momentous decision of some kind. In general, though, synchronicities just seem to “happen”. They appear out of the blue. We may marvel with appreciation and wonder at them, but we have no idea what caused them.

In my second book, Active Consciousness, I hypothesize that the very existence of the phenomenon of synchronicity may tell us something profound about the way the universe is operating. In particular, there may be “fields of meaning” out there — for example, fields that carry the energies of “fear” or “love” or even much more specific types of meaning. The occurrence of synchronicities seems to suggest that events, dreams, people, objects, and locations imbued with the same energy or meaning tend to attract one another so that they ultimately coincide in time and space. As a result, we experience what has been called the “law of attraction.” For example, we might find that we tend to attract the very same negative experiences that we fear and dwell upon. Or, if we place ourselves into a state of “loving relationship”, we may suddenly meet our life mate.

But synchronicities don’t only bring profound experiences to us. In fact, if you pay attention and stay alert for them, you may notice that synchronicities occur much more often than you think. I give several examples in Active Consciousness, as well as in other articles I have written (for example, “The Magnetic Power of Consciousness”, “The Magic of Synchronicity”, and “Love is the the Air” — perfect reading for Valentine’s Day!).

Synchronicity also lies behind the success of divination methods, like the use of tarot cards or I Ching coins, or the shamanistic use of nature to provide signals to us. When we use these techniques, we begin by asking a question of some kind. Then we throw the cards or coins or look for signals that impart a specific meaning. These signals represent our answer, and they are produced through the underlying mechanism of synchronicity.

So what about homeopathy? As I write about in both Impossible Cure and Active Consciousess, psychiatrist and homeopath Christopher Whitmont surmised that the mechanism of homeopathic cure was related to the phenomenon of synchronicity. In particular, he said that because a remedy that is “homeopathic” to a patient is energetically similar to or exists within the same field of meaning as the patient’s disease (it can evoke similar symptoms to the ones the patient is experiencing), it can also “substitute” or displace the disease field within a patient’s body. Later, as the remedy field dissipates, the patient is freed from his or her disease.

Samuel Hahnemann, the founder the homeopathy, actually made a similar hypothesis about the action of his remedies. However, neither the concept nor the word “synchronicity” were to be invented for another 100 years — by psychiatrist Carl Jung, who was also a teacher of Whitmont.

Certainly, homeopathy and synchronicity could be related to one another. But what if homeopathy is actually the medicine that explicitly utilizes the underlying mechanism of synchronicity in order to heal? Just like traction uses gravity to separate bones, what if a remedy simply uses the mechanism of synchronicity to create health? It’s an intriguing thought. Rather than a synchronicity simply “happening” because of the underlying way in which the universe works (just as a apple falls from a tree because of gravity), the medicine of homeopathy actively and explicitly forces a synchronicity to happen — and healing is the result. In fact, the curative power of homeopathic remedies may be one of the best clues we have about what the phenomenon of synchronicity is really all about on a deeper level!

So let’s review. In general, a synchronicity occurs because two things imbued with similar meaning tend to “attract” one another in time and space. But if we actively take two things with similar meaning (a remedy and a patient) and bring them together, something interesting happens. It’s somewhat like utilizing a catalyst to trigger something.

Here’s my hypothesis: A “forced” synchronicity creates an amplification of energy that allows a significant and unusual change to occur — an unlikely fork in the possible trajectories into the future. What exactly happens at this juncture is likely affected by the underlying intention. In homeopathy, the intention is healing. The same thing occurs in a group therapy session for individuals suffering from the same problem. However, bringing together similar energies doesn’t always create healing. For example, in a riot, similarly resonating angry individuals trigger destruction.

Still, there’s something about homeopathy that’s seems different to me than group therapy or a riot. Perhaps it’s the fact that potentization — the technique used to produce homeopathic remedies, which both attenuates and transforms the energy of the originating substance — enables homeopathic remedies to reach the same level of subtlety at which synchronicity operates. After all, non-potentized substances do not create nearly the same curative effects, and the more potentized a remedy is, the more powerful it is! As all of us who have experienced a perfectly matching remedy know, the resulting shift in consciousness or physical health that can occur is often instantaneous and startling.

Finally, my parting question to you is this: In what other ways can we actively use the phenomenon of synchronicity to benefit and heal our world? Food for thought!

On the Verge

AmyLansky.com Posted on January 14, 2016 by AmyLanskyJanuary 14, 2016

Part-IIIDo you know that feeling, just before you reach the initial peak of a roller coaster? You feel a mixture of excitement, dread, anticipation, and an odd quiet stillness, as if you are suspended in mid-air? That’s how I am feeling at the beginning of 2016. It’s like something big is coming, but at this moment, everything seems still, everything seems status-quo. I feel like our civilization is on the verge.

You may have noticed that I’ve occasionally skipped a month in the release of my Active Consciousness newsletters. That’s because I’ve been actively engaged in trying to practice what I preach, release myself from “shoulds”, and follow my guidance. I’ve also been trying to release myself from the neverending weight of achieving and instead, be okay with just being. Maybe it’s related to the fact that I just turned 60. I’ve also decided to put my plans for a third book on hold for now. I wrote a few chapters, but I just wasn’t “feeling it.” As a result, my life has become more empty, still, and quiet, mixed with a feeling of waiting.

Which brings me back to the verge. As the drawing above indicates, our current verge might also be a choice point. This concept (as well as the image) is from my book Active Consciousness. A choice point is a point at which the future bifurcates in a fundamental and non-mechanistic way. It is a point where our intention sends us down one path or another. Thus, not only may our collective roller coaster be nearing a peak, but there might be more than one track that we could take on our way down.

Surely, many major choices are coming down the pike this year. For one, there is the American election of 2016. Talk about choices! Could there be two candidates any more different in their views than Donald Trump and Bernie Sanders? Our world is definitely caught in a period of immense polarities in almost every sphere of life. This too is part of being “on the verge.”

But another key point I make in Active Consciousness is that each of us can have an influence on what happens at a choice point. What we say and do and even think or believe has an influence on the outcome. Just like the “butterfly effect”, even small influences can make a huge difference at a choice point.

(By the way, as I discuss in my first book Impossible Cure, this is also related to how homeopathic remedies work. The very subtle action of these remedies can create sweeping healing effects, but only if they are well-chosen and matched to the patient. Although they may be miniscule in materiality, because they exert just the right influence at the right time, they are able to create huge healing effects.)

Lately, I have become very interested in and inspired by the work of Buckminster Fuller. Bucky (as he liked to be called) often used the phrase “Trimtab” to describe himself. In fact, he had the phrase “Call Me Trimtab” inscribed on his tombstone!

A trim tab is a small flap or rudder that is placed on the much bigger rudder of an ocean liner or airplane. Instead of exerting a large force to move the main rudder, a very small change is made to the trim tab. Because of the effects of wind or water pressure and speed, this small change to the trim tab is able to move the large rudder, and as a consequence, the huge vehicle to which it is attached. Thus, the idea of trying to be a trim tab is that a small action can be selected and performed in just the right way so that it can have huge effects. A related idea is the use of minimal energy and material to have maximum positive effect — an important principle of sustainability.

Bucky Fuller devoted his life as an experiment to prove that one small man could have a huge positive impact on society — bigger, in fact, than could be achieved by any weighty organization or government. In other words, he tried to be a trim tab. And many would agree that he succeeded!

As we near the peak of the roller coaster of 2016, I think it behooves us to all to try and be trim tabs so that we can collectively help to steer the course of our descent. Don’t forget: even the smallest action can be a trim tab. It could be a smile or greeting to a stranger; it could be a connection you make between two people; it could be this article that I send out to you and that you share with your friends!

And one way to figure out what would be the most optimal trim-tab-like thing to do is (in the words I use in Active Consciousness) to “Choose Joy.” Remember to take that extra moment to reach deep within and follow your heart, your Inner Wisdom. We’re all in it together, all interconnected, all aboard the wild roller coaster of 2016. Let’s have a great ride!

The Secret to Healing Lies Within You

AmyLansky.com Posted on January 14, 2016 by AmyLanskyJanuary 14, 2016

Part-VHappy New Year!

As we all know, this is a time for personal resolutions that set a tone for the coming year ahead. Why not make it one of your resolutions to search for a path to true healing, not through outside resources, but from healing knowledge that lies deep within you?

One of the important concepts in homeopathic philosophy is that symptoms are not there to be vanquished, but rather, to be understood and used as clues. Indeed, if we merely suppress symptoms and sweep them under the rug (as most allopathic medicines do), we may also lose access to vital “bread crumbs” that could lead us back to health.

For example, a homeopath utilizes a patient’s unique symptoms as indicators of the correct remedy to prescribe. This remedy can then stimulate and heal the vital force — the innate energy that guides the physical body, including its immune system. This activation of the vital force (using the correct remedy) can then guide us back to health.

But homeopaths also understand that symptoms are even more mysterious and significant than being mere clues to the correct remedy choice. Like dream symbols, symptoms are often representative of our deepest inner state. They can tell us much about what our vital force and even deeper energy bodies are trying to tell us. Sometimes the message is: “Here are some clues. Take the homeopathic remedy that match them.” But sometimes the message is: “Leave your job,” or “Tell your parents how you really feel,” or “Your anger is killing you. Let it go.”

As many of you know, in addition to Impossible Cure I am also the author of a book called Active Consciousness (which, by the way, was recently named one of “Five Spiritual Books that Will Change Your Perspective of Reality”!). For this reason, I try to keep up with the latest in spirituality and consciousness as well as homeopathy. Recently, I listened to a podcast about tuning into the wisdom of the inner self for purposes of healing. The speaker suggested two questions to ask yourself when in meditation:

What does your body need in order to heal?

If your body has a message for you, what is it trying to teach you?

Since then, I have meditated on these two questions every time I begin to feel ill — whether it be a cold, headache, or an ache or pain. In fact, I wrote these two questions on a piece of paper that is now taped on the wall by my computer; it’s a handy reminder. If you engage in this meditative practice and follow through on the insight you receive, I am sure that you will find that you can bring greater health into your life. Indeed, by finding your answers for healing within, your need for external healing aids, whether homeopathic or allopathic, will likely decrease dramatically.

Feeling Tired and Flu-ish? Try Homeopathy!

AmyLansky.com Posted on January 14, 2016 by AmyLanskyJanuary 14, 2016

gelsemiumIn the past, I have written more than one article about homeopathic remedies for the flu. This season, I suspect that one of the primary remedies will be Gelsemium, one of the most commonly used remedies for flu. It is available in any health food store. In fact, a single dose of Gelsemium 30c recently bumped me out of a feeling of incipient illness, enabling me to take an out-of-town vacation the next day. One of the keynotes of Gelsemium is a feeling of extreme fatigue, heaviness, and weakness. The patient feels that they simply can’t get up off the couch or out of bed.

As always, of course, the right remedy for the flu (or any acute illness) is the remedy whose symptoms match those being experienced. This article (from an old issue of the Impossible Cure Newsletter) will serve as a refresher course on common flu remedies.

Remember, there’s always hope with homeopathy!
